“This was during a trip to Cochamó [with Tommy Caldwell], in the town close by called Puerto Varas. We received an invitation to come climb at a wall that was built at the train station. All the local climbers were there, and they were psyched out of their minds to meet Tommy. The atmosphere was electric. Everybody encouraged everybody no matter what level they were climbing at. After trying some of the testpieces on their board, they told me about this crack in the roof that had not yet been climbed. I gave it a good try, but it was very difficult, and I did not succeed. I recently received a message saying that a local climber has finally succeeded in freeing this roof crack!”
