Mifepristone Remains Available by Mail Nationwide

What’s going on: Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled that the abortion pill mifepristone will remain available by mail through telehealth appointments — for now. Last October, Louisiana sued the FDA, claiming that mifepristone’s availability through telehealth undermined the state's abortion ban. The medication is used in two-thirds of abortions nationwide (typically in conjunction with another pill, misoprostol), and also in miscarriage care. Last week, a lower court agreed with Louisiana. But the drug companies that manufacture mifepristone took it straight to the Supreme Court, requesting an emergency order to keep mifepristone available by mail while the appeals process goes forward. Which is exactly what the high court agreed to — though the issue will likely boomerang back to its docket in the future.

But will this stop here?: Even if this case doesn't go their way in the end, anti-abortion activists and politicians have often taken multiple routes to achieve their goals. Think: the courts, legislatures, the EPA, and the FDA. Meanwhile, abortion advocates have long warned about the effort to resurrect the dormant 19th-century Comstock Act, which bars the mailing of any drug that could induce abortion. (Justice Clarence Thomas brought it up in his dissent.) If that succeeds, it would impact both mifepristone and misoprostol. So while this news feels like a temporary win for abortion rights, both sides are anxiously waiting to see what happens next.

What's going on: The spotlight on women athletes shines brighter than ever, but 93% struggle to make ends meet after going pro. Enter an unlikely sponsor: an app mostly known for its porn content. Front Office Sports reports that OnlyFans has quietly moved to rehab its brand by becoming a major backer of underfunded women’s sports, niche sports (like trail runners and bobsledders), and surging sports like beach volleyball. Roughly 285 professional athletes now have accounts or partnerships on the platform. For many, this isn’t bonus income — it’s survival income. One beach volleyball player said it costs $50K annually just to compete, while another worked four jobs so she could play and support her family. Deflating.

Tell me more: OnlyFans puts the ball in the athletes’ court on the content they create and how they interact with their audiences. More importantly, the income is direct — there’s no haggling over salaries. Athletes use the platform for training videos, workouts, travel diaries, and behind-the-scenes content. That matters in sports like beach volleyball, where athletes compete in bikinis and get photographed constantly — often with little control over where those images end up. OnlyFans connects them to a community of fans and creators. In fact, two volleyball players will star in a new reality volleyball competition with a $50K grand prize. It’s a full-circle moment for a brand that never intended to be adults only — and if there’s anything that can rehab a rep, it’s sports.

Catch me up: The next time you hear a man say that women are too emotional, remind him of Real Madrid’s existence. The Spanish soccer team (sorry — fútbol club) is the most popular in the world, and they’re currently having a massive meltdown. They just lost the league championship to their archrivals, Barcelona, for the second year in a row — in part because star player Kylian Mbappé has been on the couch nursing a knee injury. And, allegedly, he could've been back on the field much sooner, if the medical staff hadn't misdiagnosed him after doing an MRI scan on the wrong leg. (Mbappé denies that story, though.) Some fans have been upset to see him use his time off to go on vacation and be shady on social media. When he finally returned yesterday, fans jeered.

There's more: Last week, an actual physical fight broke out in the locker room between two midfielders, during which the latter got a concussion, went to the hospital, and was put on medical rest. They’re not the only ones in an (unsexy) heated rivalry; that same week, one guy slapped another in an argument during practice. To top it all off, this week, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez made a truly bizarre media appearance in which he called on those “in the shadows” to come forward and face him in an election. With just weeks to go until the US hosts the FIFA World Cup, all of this drama is set to go global. Several Real Madrid team members will play for their home countries — and against one another — on the pitch. Grass will fly.
