Happy Sunday. Call it the Heated Rivalry effect, but if you’re reading this, I survived my second hockey game in two months. (Just kidding, I was there solely for my favorite hibachi.) To recover, I’ll paint my nails with the color Selena Gomez just cosigned, which is impossible to mess up and perfect for every occasion. While that dries, here’s what else is on my agenda:

Unless you managed N-O-T-T-O-G-O online this past week (in which case, congrats), you know Chappell Roan, an 11-year-old fan, and a security guard walked into a hotel breakfast — and sparked a days-long internet meltdown. Last Saturday, Italian-Brazilian soccer star Jorginho Frello posted the IG equivalent of War and Peace, claiming the Midwest Princess made his stepdaughter, Ada Law (yes, that Law), cry. According to Frello, his wife, stepdaughter, and Roan were all staying at the same São Paulo hotel for Lollapalooza Brasil when the kid “got excited” after spotting Roan at breakfast. Showing more restraint than literally any middle schooler ever, the girl “walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her,” then returned to her own. That’s when a security guard came over and “began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner,” accusing his wife of letting her daughter “disrespect” and “harass” other guests. The backlash was swift: Memes about Roan hating children flooded feeds (not a competition, but this is the best) and Rio’s mayor banned her from performing at this future event while he’s in office (if only our politicians acted this fast on…anything).

Roan, who’s never been one to bite her tongue, responded with her own video, saying the man wasn’t part of her “personal security” and that she was totally unaware of the incident. Oh, and she added this important clarification — which, naturally, was also memed. Then, because we hadn’t heard enough sides yet, Frello’s wife posted a six-minute video with her take, and Roan’s team doubled down on the singer’s statement, explaining she has a “zero tolerance” policy for “aggressive behavior towards her or her fans.” All of which led the security guard at the center of the controversy, Pascal Duvier (if his name sounds familiar, this is why), to finally chime in. In an Instagram apology, he took “full responsibility” for the kerfuffle, which he said occurred while he was “at the hotel on behalf of another individual.” The obvious questions: Why would he take it upon himself to berate a child? Particularly if he was working for someone else? Will we ever know the full story? Who knows, but good luck, babe.

Who doesn’t love it when Saturday Night Live cast members or hosts break character? Kevin Nealon, that’s who. On Tuesday, Doug from Weeds posted on X, shading what are arguably some of the show’s most delightful moments. Kevin, we disagree — and to prove it, here are five of the best breaks in recent memory:

🏆 Earlier this month, Ryan “I Always Break” Gosling stayed true to form during his fourth hosting gig. But it’s his 2024 Beavis and Butt-Head sketch with Mikey Day that earns a spot here — largely because they cracked one of the cast’s strongest soldiers. Heidi, we wouldn’t have been able to make eye contact either.

🏆 Every time Bill Hader appeared as city correspondent Stefon on Weekend Update — and yes, that counts as one entry. Though in Stefon’s defense, a certain writer often changed the jokes right before Hader had to read them on live TV. Brutal. And brilliant.

🏆 Kristen Wiig in this Price Is Right spoof, in which she and Maya Rudolph play a pair of incompetent spokesmodels who can barely present the night’s prizes. As soon as Rudolph tickles that raw chicken, it’s all downhill for Wiig.

🏆 Marcello Hernández and Mikey Day as the most- and least-used emoji, respectively. The combination of Day’s delivery, Hernández consistently being .00001 seconds away from losing it, and the emoji costumes themselves? Perfection.

🏆 Any Debbie Downer sketch — but especially the Disney World family vacation. No one comes out unscathed: not Lindsay Lohan, not Amy Poehler, not even Rachel Dratch. Things get so bad, one cast member uses Mickey Mouse waffles to wipe away tears of laughter. The opposite of wah-wah.

Simone Biles bought her best friend and mom-to-be a “dream” gift. Something tells us that wasn’t on the baby registry.
