Look, we expected Voicemails for Isabelle to be cheesy, in a bad way — so consider this our official apology. The Netflix film, which has taken the internet by storm, follows Jill (Zoey Deutch), a baker who copes with the loss of her sister by leaving confessional voicemails on her phone. Little does Jill know, the number’s been reassigned to Wes (Nick Robinson), a real estate agent who becomes smitten with Jill and her messages. If this sounds like “a sick, sick reboot of You’ve Got Mail,” you’re not wrong — in fact, that’s a line from the film itself. But it’s also got an impeccable soundtrack, Nick Offerman as an unhinged chef, and Lukas Gage as the worst dude in the world. Sold.

Happy (almost) weekend. Summer is officially in full swing — and so is my social calendar. So in addition to spending a few hours getting my life in order (read: putting together my currently on-sale patio furniture), here’s what else I’ve got going on:

As a freshly minted soccer fan, I’m planning my weekend around the World Cup. Between watch parties in my cool soccer-inspired shorts, I’ll finish this doc on the US team before the knockout rounds start.
I’m headed to Florida in less than a week, so I’m in last-minute purchase mode. My list includes this personal fan, my favorite sunscreen mist, and this silky accessory — which has become my summer hair savior, especially after seeing this simple trick to keep it in place.
Since I finished Taiwan Travelogue, I’ve been on a mission to find Philly restaurants that serve the dishes mentioned. The novel follows a Japanese writer on a state-sponsored trip to Taiwan in the 1930s — a story of colonization through food, translation, and a complicated female friendship. It’s only June, but I already know this will be one of my top three reads of the year.
My friends and I started playing cards at a local bar on Sundays. Our current obsession is gin rummy, and I’ve been eyeing this cute deck to upgrade our setup.
Lastly, I’ll tune in to the new episode of House of the Dragon. Fingers crossed it’s less traumatic than last week’s.
